Kai Moana

We had a wonderful immersion day investigating Kaimoana. We went to Kaiti Beach to look at the rock pools and cook mussels on the beach and did a beach clean-up. Our work with the House of Science Sea and Me kit helped us to understand what we were looking at. After that, we went to Gisborne Fisheries to see my good friend Salve Zame. He showed us through their factory. We got to see all sorts of fish that they catch, including crayfish pools, and got a first-hand experience with the sea ice. A great day indeed!

  1. Ka pai, Rongomatane! Kia ora, it's Kōka Amie here. One of the local Manaiakalani facilitators that comes into your school.
What an incredible week of learning you've had! I'm actually a little jealous that you got to spend time at the beach, engaged in kaitiakitanga and cooking mussels on the beach! A tour around the fisheries sounds like an incredible opportunity for learning too! What was the most suprising learning for the day? I look forward to reading more about all the wonderful learning opportunities you and your incredible teacher manage to be part of! Keep up the great sharing!
